My Teaching Method

1. I Use a Unique Approach to Teaching  & Learning
    Math, Science & Stats

I basically use the same approach that I used to improve my own results in Math & Science at school from 43% in Gr.10 to 100% in matric (National school-leaving exams). This is a unique method of learning Math and Science, that I developed for myself at school. I call it Analytic Categorization. I also assume that the student knows nothing about a particular topic. We start from scratch with the most basic concepts for the topic and then swiftly move towards most advance.

2. Lessons are Completely Interactive

Instead of the lesson being a lecture, with me doing all the work, it is completely interactive. I'll start off with a concept, do some illustrative examples, and then ask the student to try some questions based on the concept that we're discussing. We then check the student's answers and discuss it where necessary. In this way, we swiftly move through the whole syllabus.

3. Lessons are Exam-based

Throughout the lesson, we focus on exam-realistic examples and questions, making sure that the student is able to answer any possible questions on a topic. Once we have completed a particular topic, the student gets a chance to do some past exam-papers on their own, which we then discuss during the next lesson.

4. We Focus on Building Strong Analytical Reasoning
    and Mathematical Problem-solving Skills

Lessons are constructed in such a way so as to build strong analytical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving skills in students. This becomes important not only in exams, but also for future learning and success in the workplace.

'The Tutor has, throughout the year, helped me to stay abreast of a very difficult subject, with his amazing techniques...I managed to maintain a 95% average for my tutorials and my test-results went up by 20%...'

5. We Focus on Success Strategies

Apart from going through the actual syllabus content, we also discuss the strategies necessary for success in Math and Science. These are Motivation, Work-ethic, Time-management, Study-skills, Mathematical Problem-solving Approach, Exam-technique and Maintaining a Balance. These are all contained in my book 'The 10 Principles of Excellence in Math', which is available for purchase by the student.

6. I Use a Set Approach

Most of my students score on average 80%+ after a minimum number of 16 hours tuition and after we have gone through their entire syllabus together. These results are only possible because of the unique approach that I have, namely to discuss each topic in their syllabus from scratch, making sure that they understand each concept and can successfully answer questions on it. Because of the guaranteed results of this approach, I prefer to stick to it. Having said that, I'm also open to the student's needs and is willing to adjust to the needs of individual students.
